MP - Project Manager transitioning to Animation
"I've always had a stable professional career and I’m good at my job. But I had this creative side - visual art and animation - that I'd always kept as a 'hobby.' I felt guilty even thinking about turning it into something more. I’ve always carried guilt and fear of making the wrong choice and I kept feeling like time was running out.
When I met Alex, I felt stuck in a cycle of wanting to change but I kept sabotaging myself. Alex didn't push me in either direction. Instead, he helped me work through what was actually holding me back.
What changed my mindset was Alex helping me see how valid my creative work is and uncovering ways to break down the steps I needed to take that once felt impossible. I'd been waiting for permission, and Alex helped me see that I didn't need anyone's permission but my own.
Within months, I decided to leave the full-time role that wasn't serving me anymore. I found part-time work, enrolled on an Animation course to help improve my skills, and finally had the confidence to begin sharing my portfolio of work online. This change has given me the flexibility I needed. I’ve moved from feeling flat and stuck to feeling motivated and energised, with a clear sense of purpose and direction. Alex met me in that fearful, uncertain place and helped me take the leap I'd been too scared to take alone."
CL - Teacher struggling with self-belief
"I came to Alex feeling completely lost. I'd deferred my final year of my teaching qualification because I wasn't sure it was what I wanted anymore. My last placement had a huge impact on my confidence, and I was questioning everything I thought I’d wanted. I was also comparing myself to peers who seemed to have it all figured out and were further down the road with their life. I felt like I was failing.
I didn’t know what to expect from coaching, but I knew I needed help. From our first session, I felt at ease with Alex’s empathetic and calming approach, giving me the space I needed to think and share without judgment. The practical sessions we had helped me to see what I valued and what brought me happiness. I'm quite visual and feel overwhelmed by too many ideas at once, and Alex got that straight away.
I felt in control of my own journey instead of being told what to do. And when I shared my fears about being stuck, Alex listened without trying to fix me. He just helped me see options I couldn't see on my own.
Alex helped me stop waiting for permission and to start trusting myself. I feel like I’m building something that’s mine and I can do it with confidence.
WM - University student and music producer
"When I first connected with Alex in 2020, I was stuck in a loop of starting projects with huge excitement, getting partway through, then convincing myself they weren't good enough. My hard drive was full of half-finished tracks.
I was also trying to balance being a full-time university student with building a music career, and I kept feeling like I was failing at both. When I was working on uni assignments, I felt guilty about not making music. When I was creating, I felt like I should be studying.
He helped me embrace curiosity - trying new approaches to see what happened rather than only doing what I already knew. And when I got stuck in my head about whether something was 'good enough,' he'd ask questions that would gently challenge those beliefs.
Alex validated that what I was experiencing was real and common among creatives navigating multiple paths. He helped me see that I didn't need external validation or a catalogue of releases to call myself a producer - I could give myself that permission right where I was.
I'm now at a point where I’ve released songs I never thought I was capable of making. I've performed for hundreds of people in venues. Alongside this, I’ve changed how I feel about the work. I don't need external validation to know something is worth completing. I trust my creative instincts.
Alex's patience, openness and non-judgement helped me see the pressure and guilt I was putting on myself for trying to do everything. Whether you're just starting out or you've been making work for years but feel stuck or blocked creatively, Alex understands the real barriers that keep us stuck."
LR - Former Assistant Manager finding their purpose
I met Alex as I looked to get back into work after a period of unemployment. I’d lost confidence in myself and was anxious of ending up back in the high-pressure environment that led to me feeling burnout. I didn’t know what area of work I wanted.
Alex’s practical and approachable style allowed me to realise what steps I could take to achieve my goals and understand what didn’t work with the previous working environment that had affected me - work-life balance and losing sight of what I was doing it all for.
I’d felt so overwhelmed that I couldn’t see a way forward and Alex helped me break down my goals into manageable steps, while having someone who understood my fears without judgement.
He continued to provide ad-hoc support once I secured a new role as I looked to move from a part-time position to full-time, and consider my longer term aspirations. After six months, I transitioned into a full-time role, in a position where I feel the work matters.
Alongside my career aspirations, I was keen to get into radio presenting and I have now completed over 50 shows at a local radio station. I would recommend Alex to anyone seeking support and guidance on their career aspirations.
